“Not long ago, a young woman named Alba faced significant challenges early in her life. Born with Down syndrome, she was abandoned by her biological mother. Despite being rejected by twenty potential adoptive families, her future seemed uncertain until Luca Trapanese entered her life, changing her destiny forever.

Luca, who had recently ended a serious relationship, felt a void he believed only fatherhood could fill. Despite the social obstacles he faces as a single, gay man in Italy, where surrogacy is prohibited and same-sex couples cannot jointly adopt, Luca remained steadfast in his desire to become a father. He was willing to seize the opportunity to adopt a child with special needs like Alba.

Their meeting seemed like fate. At the time Luca discovered Alba, numerous families had rejected her because of her condition. In July 2017, Luca made the decision that would change their lives forever by adopting her, uniting them as a family. Since then, Luca and Alba have formed an unbreakable bond.

Luca had always imagined fatherhood and embraced it wholeheartedly alongside Alba. He often shares snippets of their happy moments on social media, proudly identifying himself as a single father deeply devoted to his daughter.

Now seven years old, Alba’s life with Luca is filled with love and happiness. Luca considers fatherhood his most meaningful role, prioritizing Alba’s well-being above all else.

Their days are filled with shared activities, such as dancing and singing, while Luca celebrates each of Alba’s achievements with immense pride. He is keenly aware of the importance of these milestones for children with Down syndrome and is committed to supporting Alba through every challenge.

Luca is determined to challenge societal perceptions and advocate for Alba’s rights as an individual, beyond her disability. He aspires for Alba to be recognized for her unique talents and abilities, believing that all children, especially those with disabilities, possess extraordinary qualities.

In an effort to reshape social attitudes, Luca wrote a book titled ‘We Will Surprise You With Our Specialties,’ aiming to change perceptions about disabilities and highlight them as strengths rather than limitations.

To potential adoptive parents, Luca offers words of encouragement, emphasizing the profound rewards of adoption and the importance of embracing parenthood wholeheartedly.

Today, Alba thrives in an environment filled with love and opportunities, participating in diverse activities and embracing life to the fullest. Born with Down syndrome, Alba’s condition doesn’t define her; rather, it enhances her uniqueness and resilience.
